Employee Safety and Training
OMI Environmental Solutions (OMIES) requires that all employees receive proper training before they are put in any situation requiring specific knowledge or hazardous situations. We conduct in house training on an as needed basis and also utilize outside training in many areas. Our minimum requirements for OMIES employees include Safety Orientation, 40 hr. HAZWOPER, Confined Space, Drug and Alcohol Program, and Industrial Safety.
Every weekday morning a brief daily safety message is sent via text to OMIES employees to get their mind thinking about safety. We want our employees to know that we care about their well-being and to inform them about what is going on that day specific to safety. The safety text is also used for severe weather information or any important safety messages such as near misses.
Safety This Week emails are sent so observations and good catches can be used throughout the company as something to learn from, not something to be put in a file cabinet and forgotten. We are also able to share statistical information on safety in those emails.
OMIES uses the Dupont STOP Safety Observation program for supervision and peer review. Employees are encouraged to identify proper safety practices as well as practices that need to be corrected. Data received is used to update training and identify areas that need improvement.
The OMIES C.A.R.E.S. program emphasizes that our employees are our most important asset.
Supervisors, Foreman, Operators Training
In addition to initial training requirements, OMIES employees above the technician level have the following minimum experience. Supervisors need three (3) years, foreman two (2) years, operators two (2) years of industrial setting experience. Promotion to the next level is based upon leadership, job specific knowledge and training specific to job requirements. Supervisors, Foremen and Operators receive Supervisor Training, Incident Command System, Spill Management, Mitigation Procedures, and Logistics Training as needed, as required.
